Thanks Ron,

I'm trying to figure out everything I need parts wise to bolt AOD when I find one.

Do you have verified horsepower numbers from a dyno test? 50 sounds awfully high, more like an urban myth.
Consider the first Ford-O-Matic, in 1951. It was cast iron and almost as big as a C6, and not nearly as efficient, I'm sure. So we can assume it required much the same horsepower as a C6. A '51 flathead was rated at 110 horsepower but likely made less. Thus, 50 horsepower would be half the total output! In reality, they performed about the same as a manual transmission; a little slower, but not 50 HP slower!
Many 40 HP Model A's have C4's installed. If those trannies drained off 25 HP, that only leaves 15 to move the car! Does that even make sense?! I don't think so!

There is a lot of Flathead to AOD information on the internet and seems like everybody and his brother is selling an adapter kit! Speedway, Transdepot, ebay, is just a start!!

Those numbers have been floating around the internet for a decade or more. They are the maximum HP losses from dyno runs with big-HP engines at full output, not the constant losses in normal operation. Here's a similar test, which shows an AOD eating up 83 HP of a 361 HP small block Ford.

I have a friend that uses Ford C4's behind Buick 320 CID straight eights in lieu of Dana-Flows.
My friend has a '38 Buick Century coupe that has twin turbos, 320 CID that puts out 1,100 hp. Of course he has put some improvements into the C4..

I just got a response this morning from flat-o-matic they do not make a kit/adapter to bolt an AOD to 8ba FH. I did however see one on another site last night for C4, and C6.

Here are a couple after a quick google search. Also Speedway sells a complete kit including the transmission for just over $3000

I had an Expedition with the E40D, on a trip, a sensor in the tranny went, wiped out half of the computer, car wouldn't shift out of 1st gear, Ford garage had to replace computer and sensor this was 1500 miles from home not fun.

Thanks Allout, I heard back this morning from both links you posted. They are rather proud of their kits with the pricing. That is why I start early locating, gathering, and then saving up for parts. I think I might have located an AOD in a parked vehicle behind a house with weeds up to the windshield. Going back tomorrow to talk to hubby.
