Good luck. I have never gotten any satisfaction by talking to Bob Drake personally about any problem with his products or business practices. He seems to have a certain way of doing business and makes few if any exceptions.

Chris, good luck on swapping out the parts! My experience with Bob Drake went well, I bought a set of front bumper brackets from Bob direct, set them aside for over two years, only to find two right side combined brackets when I finally opened them. Called Bob and they said send them back and we will replace them with the right brackets, which they did.

Somebody else out there has two right side pcs. and no left

I can see BD's point, the parts came from a swap meet vendor they can't control what happens in that situation. Sounds like another guy swapped out what he needed and left you with this. He had the same problem only other side.

It would behoove us all to open a box there in front of the vendor to ensure just what you have, or the quality of the part at least before you buy. If you had done this you wouldn't have had this problem.

Good luck.

OK, so here is the update: A gentleman on the Jalopy Journal saw my post and knew the dealer at the Albany swap meet where I bought these grill pieces. It is a guy named Johnny B, and is also in Grants Pass, OR. I called him and he said no problem, send the duplicated piece back and he will get me the correct piece. He said he remembered me and selling me the 46 trim pieces, and said he has guys confuse him with Drake because he carries a lot of their parts and is also from the same town.

So, thank you everyone for the help and advise, and like some have mentioned above, always inspect what you are purchasing at a swap meet whether new or not.

He did not say it was not their fault, just said it may not be their fault, either. I agree with you COOP that here is a great time to step up and show some customer service. What would they be out? But, it is neither my or your call to do so. I would gladly send this spare piece back in exchange for the right piece.

I told him I was not looking to get "something for free" or anything like that, and that the trim pieces ($350.00) were basically useless missing 1/3 of them. He said he understood, and would try his best to get me squared away.

If worse comes to worse, I can have my original right side rechromed, but that would probably cost me at least 100.00.

Glad it turned out good for you

OldFord2, it probably would have cost roughly the same to rechrome mine as new ones, only problem with mine is the center piece has two big cracks in it where the hood closes down on it. They are pot metal and so not easily repairable and can get costly. Plus mine had pitting in the pot metal. I saw them at the swap and it was an "impulse buy" haha

Hi Everyone. One of my take-away's is that Chris was nice about his issue to everyone, and it looks like that method is going to work. Hurray!

I suppose you could order a new set from Bob Drake and send it back with two of the same side saying it was not acceptable and getting a refund. Only as a last resort. Why should BD pay for a vendors screwup? I was at his facility and had a great tour, was given two r three tshirts and left with a good impression.

Just to end this thread, Johnny exchanged the correct piece for me with zero problems, great guy to work with, and I received a call back from a gentleman at Bob Drake to be sure I was satisfied.
