Default Fords needed a ride home!

These two Fords needed a ride home. A "barn-find" 2-door 1954 Customline that has not seen the road since 1984. And a 40 coupe "field-find" with an unknown history that needs some loving. The International, diesel powered '56 C-750 hauled them without even working up a sweat. What a fun day!

Love the 54! I've got mine with a fresh 292 in place of the 239 and fresh paint. But all that stainless trim to straighten and polish...I've gotta just do it and put it back together.

Enjoy your project! This is my first '54. It needs paint (original "survivor" paint coat), upholstery, new locks (seller lost the keys). Very, very, very little bodywork needed. And, I need to wake-up the 272. Worth the time for a less than 41,000 mile(documented) two door.

Has the engine been changed on the '54? They originally came with the 239" "Y"-block.

The 54 has the same colors as the one I had in the in the 60's. Was real nice rust free car. Here is picture of another just like mine and seems to be the same color as yours

Get with FlatHeadCoupe to see what he can do to make replacement keys for you. You may just need to pull a door lock cylinder and the glove compartment lock, if there is one.

I'd like to see more pics of all 3 of em. Even if rough I would love to someday own a '40, and lastly, what diesel is in the F750 and did you do the conversion?

I have heard the IH built 7.3 lovingly refered to as 'an old school bus engine'. And I'll correct myself as I see it's a C-750. Perfect way to haul the treasures home!

The inline IH DT 466 has been around for decades, and is a well respected mid size diesel. Not sure what liter is is, 7.3, or is that one of the v8's?
now, an excuse to whimper some, I bought points for my model A the other day. It has an after market point base that uses 57 & up ford v8 points. They are all the same for about 20 years, but the kid at the store asks if its a 4.3, or a 4. whatever...Who knows ! it doesn't matter, the are all the same, 312, or 372 (?). I ask if they all show the same part number, ya, they do. Then, they had to be ordered, always used to be in stock. Well, I said, order 2 if I gotta order them. Well, he says one is in chicago, and one is here in mpls. I'll take one. whimper done

7.3 is the V8 that later became the power stroke. Was a 6.9 when first introduced into the ford pickups in the '80s. Indirected injected and built by IH. I still buy some parts direct from IH, or is it Case/IH....On my last model A i drilled and tapped some holes in the base plate and used the napa ones. We better get back to the subject at hand before the teacher raps our knuckles with a ruler.

You are correct sir and, no the engine has not been changed. They say the mind is the first thing to go ... I forget what's second. It is indeed a 239, thanks for the correction.

No problem. I was just wondering if the engine had been upgraded. I have heard the the 239's were problematic.

That 54 brings back a lot of memories, had mine in 64, it ran great and took a lot of abuse. It could beat any 54 chev. have fun, clean and drive.

In 54 a friend bought a new 54 Customline with the 6 cylinder engine. At our local illegal drag strip he beat many of the new OHV V8 cars. One day he and a fellow that had a new 54 Chev went off a few times. Very close, almost nose to nose. We all were surprised.

A neat find for sure. If that 54 was pulled out of a barn down here in NZ it would have a flatty in it as we got it for an extra year, like your Canadian neighbours.
