1940 3/4 ton fuel tank and seat

I've got a 1940 3/4 ton pickup and I am trying figure a couple things out. First, is the fuel tank in it stock? (see picture) Secondly, it came without a seat so I don't know what the seat configuration is. Does anyone have a picture of an installed stock seat?

I agree! I could get some seat pictures in the morning. Can we see a few pics of the whole truck? I love the 40-41 big trucks.

I believe the seat is the same as a p/u. The p/u has a riser that takes the place of the under seat tank found on the big trucks. The wood bottom of the bottom seat has 3 indented holes that align with a stud on the riser/tank that allows for forward/back adjustment of the seat. The photo you posted shows the stud on your tank. BUT all of this is based on what I recall from the '40 1 1/2 ton conventionals I had years ago as well as a '41 1/2 ton cab. AND at 69 memory isn't my strong suit.

Thanks for all the replies. I would love to see pictures of an installed seat. I was thinking of moving the seat from one of my 4 '47 1/2 tons. I will check and see if those seat have the holes in the bottom as you remembered. I'm only 56 and I don't trust my memory so you are doing good.

Here are a few more pics of my 40. I've got better front fenders and grille to install. Thinking about putting a flat bed on it. Installing new wiring throughout.

Attached are photos of the gas tank and seat in the 40 Tonner. This setup will be the same as yours. The gas tank has two tits on the front side that fit into one of 3 holes in the seat bottom. Photos 2 and 3 show the seat bottom with the 3 holes on each side of the wood frame for seat adjustment. Photos 4 and 5 show the seat back which attaches to the seat bottom at two locations. Photo 6 shows an installed seat. Photo 7 shows two pieces of rubber that I put on top of the tank between the seat frame and the tank to isolate the tank from the wood. The original paint on the driver's side of the tank had rubbed off to bare metal on the high spots which left an area exposed metal with surface rust.

You might want to consider listing at least your general area in your profile. Helps in case there is someone close to you that can offer assistance or has a part you might need. Just a thought. As far as converting to a flatbed, if you have the tailgate for the pickup bed I'd stay with the pick up bed but that's JMO. But if you don't have the tailgate the flatbed might be the way to go since tonner tailgates are made of unobtainium.
