Re-install hubcap cap
I removed hubcap stainless cap on my ‘39. Didn't work with air but mechanical removal stretched it. The stretch is not apparent to the eye and the cap looks great but it only loosely fits. How can I re-install it ? glue ? If so what kind ?
Previous posts describe removal, one or two describe difficulty with reinstallation; most ask how to get the cap back on and no answers are forthcoming! Last edited by fordmerc7; 08-14-2020 at 04:31 PM. Reason: Addition |

Re: Re-install hubcap cap
If you freeze the carbon steel part and heat the stainless steel part (250*), they will slip back together. You have to work fast!

The only other way would be to heat spots around the rim and apply cold water to shrink the metal. But this could warp it and discolor the stainless. Might be able to buff out the discoloration. I would try a “practice cap” first if attempting heat/cool method. |
