1940 color question
What is the correct color description for what I call Seamist Green, is it actually seamist gray ? Is there a Ford number for the paint color, or a later paint product # that matches it. Thank you Fordbrainers.

Re: 1940 color question
I think what you are describing is Cloud Mist Gray. It was one of the 3 V8 (standard) colors. I am sure you could get it on a deluxe 40 if you wanted.

Re: 1940 color question
Cloud Mist Gray, or "green" to my eyes. Photo below. Is that what you are referring to?
The DeLuxe models were available in Black, Lyon Blue, Folkstone Gray, Mandarin Maroon, Cloud Mist Gray and Yosemite Green through the entire production. In April, 1940 a “Spring Color”, Garnet Maroon, became available for the DeLuxe models. Wheels were painted to match body color on all DeLuxe models The Ford V8 (aka "Standard") models were available in Black, Lyon Blue and Cloud Mist Gray through the entire production. Wheels were painted black on all Ford V8 models. However, as an extra cost option, the wheels could have been painted Lyon Blue or Cloud Mist Gray, to match the body color. DeLuxe colors, with the exception of Garnet Maroon were available on the Ford V8 models as an extra cost option. Beginning May 1, 1940 two special color combinations were being furnished. It appears these combinations were available on both the DeLuxe models as well as the Ford V8 models. Introduced at this time was an additional paint color, Acadia Green, offered only as part of a combination. Combinations offered were: Folkestone Gray body with Black fender and grille sides. Folkestone Gray body with Mandarin Maroon fenders and grille sides. Mandarin Maroon body with Folkestone Gray fenders and grille sides. Cloud Mist Gray body with Acadia Green fenders and grille sides.

Re: 1940 color question
If you ever see one of those "combo" color cars in person, you will surely think twice about doing one for yourself. NOT one of Ford's better ideas. In my opinion they look like a taxi cab. And not an attractive cab at that.

Re: 1940 color question
Yes, I hear what you are saying. I just say a pic of a convertible with the folkstone gray/ maroon combo. It was hideous! It seems more acceptable on trucks. But I do like very subtle contrast on the two tone fat fendered cars. Let's say black/ dark blue. I would like to see the contrast of the cloud mist grey/ acadia applied on a 40, they are both a darker color, I believe.

Re: 1940 color question
"Thanks for the great info, Kube! I am hoping some 'barners can provide some photos of the combination colors. I have an interest in the Cloud Mist gray/ Acadia green combo as a possible color for my 40 Tudor Deluxe."
My 1940 Tonner's paint color is Acadia Green. A clever photoshopper could probably pickup the Acadia Green color from a non glare area on the truck and swipe it on the fenders of the 40 coupe in this thread which would give you an idea of that color combo. I have to agree with Kube about the wisdom of doing that two tone combo on the coupe. Les Williams |

Re: 1940 color question
Thanks for the photoshop work, Jerseyboy. You work and post has convinced me I don't want that combo on my Tudor. Leave it for the trucks. The few times I have seen Yosemite green, I have really liked it. Does any one have a photo of 40 that color?

Or the same color on a 39 Mercury, standard offering.

Re: 1940 color question
Thanks for the Mercury shot. I really like that color! It is definitely lighter than the acadia green, and maybe more reflective than the Cloud Mist. One thing for sure: A 40 ford looks good in any color, except the combos! LOL!

Re: 1940 color question
Those two shades of gray/green/whatever probably aren't the best combo. The black/gray(real gray, not green-gray) or maroon/gray (again, real gray) might look pretty sharp. I think it also would look better if the fenders and upper body (turret, hood top and trunk top - IOW, everything above the stainless strip) were the same color with the contrasting color in the middle. Course that color scheme wouldn't be authentic.
