Tried that but got the fax machine. I'll try again. Thank you for confirming the number.

I just took that number off their web site.
I know that when I bought mine, I just ordered from them direct, but that's been several years ago.

"New aircraft strength 1144 steel, with a Rockwell hardness of 23, and precision ground to within .0005 to meet Fords original specifications; polished for smooth surface. the best on the market. This is the Model 'B' cam. The 'B' cam creates twice as hot a spark as the 'A' cam, resulting in longer spark plug life." What's the difference? |

Re: Where to get a Bill Stipe distributor cam
The dwell time on the B cam is about 10 degrees more than the stock A cam, and this allows the coil to build a stronger magnetic field at higher speeds. Stronger magnetic field means a hotter spark. I can't believe it would be twice as hot a spark, unless that was at the extreme top RPM range, which most of us never approach.

There might not be any. Call them and ask where they get them from.

I'll call Bratton's. Maybe it is a Stipe's cam. Thanks

Specialty Motor Cams (920) 467-2895 They are USA made more dwell than most of the cams to give a better performance. About $12.50 each and have them in stock.

Re: Where to get a Bill Stipe distributor cam
4-cylinder engines never had a problem with dwell time. It's the V8 that had problems requiring two sets of breakers to increase dwell time. I would doubt if the high tension build would be much higher in voltage with a different breaker cam. If it is, the amount would likely be negligible. An oscilloscope would confirm ya or nay in any case. Coils gain saturation very rapidly and the engine only fires two plugs per crank revolution on a 4-banger. The model A engine is not a real high rpm engine in stock form.
