1934 Roadster Body Tag Numbers
I was looking to stamp the numbers on my 34 roadster body tag and needed to make some assumptions given the tag starts with the numbers 710 - LB and after the LB would be the sequential body production number. The Early Ford V8 as Henry Built it production facts book 1932 to 1938 states that 5,185 roadster were manufactured worldwide in 1934. Again using the Early Ford V8 production facts book my roadster serial number indicates that it was built in March of 1934. So if I estimate that 432 roadster were manufacture on a per month bases in 1934 then 1296 roadsters would have been built to the end of March 1934. So then I should be correct in arbitrarily using the number 710 - LB - 1296 for my body tag number. Does this sound logical or does anyone have a better idea on how to determine this number?

Re: 1934 Roadster Body Tag Numbers
When did they start production? What year 1933 or 34 for the roadster? Years ago the new cars started appearing before the start of the coming year. Not so much today but back in day I can remember new cars for the following year came out in Sept ,Oct.

Re: 1934 Roadster Body Tag Numbers
Hi Steve Iam thinking that you have to start with the model 40 which is all of 33 and 34. I say this because I have a late 34 Cabriolet body with a number in the 22,000,s and they only made 15,000 34s Cabriolets and 10,000 33s Cabriolets So I think that at the end of 33 production the numbers just keep running into 34 for the model 40 body type. Re: 1934 Roadster Body Tag Numbers
Your calculation should give you about the "Largest" number to affix to the tag. The bodies were delivered to the Ford assembly plants and then put in storage until needed, when they needed a body any of them could have been selected and the order did not match when they arrived at the plant. You could have an early body number on a somewhat later serial number frame.

Re: 1934 Roadster Body Tag Numbers
Steve my .02 cents I have also been curious about the body tag you are referring too. I have an original tag off a 34 and it doen't have LB on it. It has the model number then a space then -L- then a space then the last 4? or 5? #'s of production on it . I can't verify it because I'm out of town and the tag is not in front of me. Talking to some 34 owners they have also stated alot of 34's come without body tags?

Re: 1934 Roadster Body Tag Numbers
OK then I guess my assumptions and math are obviously flawed does anyone have a roadster who's serial number correlates with a March 1934 build date and if so what are the numbers on your body tag?

Re: 1934 Roadster Body Tag Numbers
Steve, my understanding regarding roadster production is that 1933 cars were built for 9 months and 1934 cars were built for 15 months. This may change your units/month calculation depending on which month production for 1934 cars started. I will continue to research and get back to you with any new info. Dave

Re: 1934 Roadster Body Tag Numbers
Back in the early '70s, we tried to register all 1933-34 Phaetons. We asked for Body Nos. and Serial Numbers. In general, the higher serial numbered cars had the higher Body Nos. So many owners did not know their Body Nos., so that no conclusion could be made. We were able to help a few with estimated Body Nos.
