Default Fuel tank welt

Has anyone replaced this welting by attaching it to the tank with glue or silicone some way before replacing the tank? I am a one man band here trying to do it on my own, a loan of a girl friend to assist would be greatly appreciated - no experience necessary. Thanks guys. John Spragg Australia.

John, if the welting is the correct size, and made of the proper material, (--which what most vendors sell is neither) AND if the welting is cut correctly as Ford did originally, then one person can install it whether it is a '28/29 or a '30/31. Lay it out and then use pliers to pull it in. When you glue it, the chances of you being able to glue it in exactly the correct place would be difficult at best.

Ohh, nice try on the "Loan-a-Girlfriend" work program!!

My blind buddy "Elmer" has recently stopped drinking and would be HAPPY to loan you his girlfriend, she's a good strong worker and will eat most anything.

John, I used masking tape to hold it in place while I installed the tanks. Did it on both rigs and it worked well. After the tank is installed you can either pull the tape out or tear it off so you don't see it under the welt. Like Brent mentions, you can then work it around with a pair of pliers. Again I am no expert on this sort of thing but it worked for my drivers.

This is a '30 A coupe I am working on and the masking tape sounds like a good option as for the girl friend loan offer I will give that a miss thank you. I have painted this welt the same color of the fuel tank (with a plastic paint tinted to match) . John Spragg Australia.
