Gary, Folks,
I agree with the black fasteners for sure. I already had most of the saw marks removed by the planer, (sorry) The saw marks on the vertical is from me whittling these to the correct width with my borrowed table saw.
I dont at all call this a restoration, as I know what it takes to do that, and this old brain just is not going there. Want it functional and safe and in its work clothes. That's about it.
I do still have the original side boards and head board for the truck. Maybe at some point they will go back on?
The machined "B" block should be ready for me in about 6 weeks. I would like to have it changed out by June 1 2022.
Off to work on maple syrup projects. Taps are in place, temp is moving to mid 40's. Might have sap to boil tomorrow??
Hope things are good in Ford Land!
Regards,
Chris

I'm a fan of the rough cut boards. There is a place south of me that mills and have a junk pile I've been lucky to get from.

We are months away from tapping any trees here. Just dropped a ft of snow and it is -10 tonight. We do it as a hobby.

Looking forward to all the posts.

Tinker, Ford Folks,
A few off topic maple syrup related pictures. Ok there is a Ford in the process in a big way also:

Sap pumping station on truck:

Getting the evaporator arch ready for the first boil. Cleaning the drop flues and the grates:

Cleaning the drop flue pan at the back of the arch:

Lots of "getting ready" things:

The first run of maple sap for 2022:

Unloading the truck tank into bulk tank:

Just starting to boil:

We have gathered about 600 gallons of sap. Boiled it down to about 60 gallons, and it is now much sweeter. It will rest in the pans waiting till next week to get additional sap to finish this to syrup. That should make about 12 gallons of syrup.

Regards
Chris

Like Gary, I like to use period correct hardware. When I can't find old carriage bolts, I dunk the head of new ones in muratic acid for just a couple seconds to take the shine off, or longer to remove all the finish. Square nuts can still be bought, but I have always saved them for projects like this

Chris, with that hot fire goiung with the syrup operation, I would take a piece of coat hanger wire and run it through a handful of Ace Hdw squate nuts and set them on the coals. In the morning they will have '1932' written all over them,.....

cas3, Folks,
The shop is pretty much still a dream to me. I only waited about 30 years for it! Yes I plumbed in a water supply outlets for a washer, in the bay where the F250 is parked. I rinse down the truck when ever it needs it. Hot water is supplied with the propane boiler. Not as much quantity as a 40 gal tank but plenty to rinse down a truck.

Here was the rough in with the hose reel:

It has been a really nice addition to the shop. I use it a lot. The hose reel is really sweet. It is all steel, coated, and pivots out away from the wall to make bringing the hose back in very slick. I really need one in the kitchen area. but this one is pretty close by.
Regards,
Chris

Chris since you have water inside your shop, do you have that area concrete sloped to a drain too ???? I would think you'd prefer to keep the inside dry and not have standing water anywhere.

I was wondering the same thing. A floor drain would be ideal, lest one would have to floor squeegee the over flow out side. I also recall in a previous post the radiant floor heat. A dream for a shop.

Guys,
Yes three floor drains, with good slope to the drains too. Floor dries in a couple hours.
Thanks for the compliments. Tried to think of most needs for a old kid and his toys!
We wait for warmer days so the sap will run.
Regards,
Chris

For me it would be the toilet.... The 75 yards up to the house is, Oh, never mind. And Chris, the hot water wash down system is great where you have road salt.
