My first old truck when I was 19 years old was a stakebed 1929 AA. One day my friend Herman and I were driving it at the beach parking lot and the bed was off, just cab/chassis and the passenger door glass broke into shards of glass and fell onto the ground, it musta been the original ford glass......

The drivers door glass is cracked but complete. Leave it or replace??
Any ideas / suggestions will be appreciated.

Chris,
Just a thought. Assuming one can remove the old glass without any or further damage you could always hang onto it. Heck, with all that wall area in your shop you could make some wood "picture" type frames for them and put period copies of advertising from 1932 in them as a display. I bet the glass would clean up nicely. I have so many oddball parts I'm trying to identify and put back into service that I don't know anything about I'm always imagining a reuse for them. It bothers me to destroy just a little bit of history.

I would only keep the rear window if it still has the FORD etching in the corner of a manufacture date. My pickup has 5/33 date stamp for May, 1933. The frame number dates to the same time frame.

On another note, Chris, what about an interior rubber floor mat ? Did your '32 have one to use as pattern for a new mat?

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR all that snow. Keep that old truck under the blankets tonight.

Folks,
Good suggestions.
I will look closer at the rear window for markings.
If I take on this glass project, i would try to save what I could too.
Rhett wanted to wait for the bus in the 32. So while it was out , I took it for just a couple mile outing. Yes snow and cold, but the roads were dry. I can almost imagine going off to work in this truck 80 years ago. (Couple pictures coming).
Today I am rearranging stainless sinks from the sugarhouse to the shop. Getting items needed for the maple and honey kitchen.
Did I mention the machine shop is going to pressure test block #1 soon? I think I said that. Looking forward to some parts gathering and engine assembly, after syrup season.
Hope things are good Ford land!
Sorry for this old truck and old man thread getting so tangled and off topic! Still learning a lot on this end!
I have know idea on the floor mat? Maybe David can comment? My guess is that was not a option in commercial vehicle?
Regards,
Chris

A taupe-colored floor mat (BB-76230) was standard equipment originally. I don't think that it was ever reproduced, but the B-76230 mat for the closed cab on commercial chassis was reproduced (at least in the past). The difference between those two mats is the location of the holes in the mats for the shift lever, hand brake lever, and power takeoff lever. If one could find one without the holes already cut out, they could cut their own holes to fit their application.

David,
Quick internet search did not have anything on the B-76230. truck mat. But I didnt expect it would have much, if any info. Trying to stay on topic a little, with small adventures from this morning in the truck.

Chris

Great pictures.

Hey if you tackle the glass it's all straight glass. Seals are fun on the front glass. If the front glass is good maybe replace the door glass. Door glass is fairly easy. If you don't care, it just gives it a bit of character.

Tinker, Folks,
Yea I dont mind the cracked glass. Could be a safety factor of course. The drivers door tracks are missing and or out of location and the glass does not operate properly.
Going to try to look at it a little harder to see what the problem is with the track and maybe make a correction there first. The truck is not going to be restored (by me) so there is a chance it might stay this way for some time.
Cold and snowy here. Going to try to hunt for the wiley whitetail today.
Found some bearing and journal specs for the rebuild of the short block #1.
Regards,
Chris

Chris,
Over on the Model "A" side of this forum there is a really nice long thread with hundreds of photos of commercial "A"s and there are even '32 dually dumps like yours. Some had nice mud flaps and side-board features. You might get more ideas browsing pictures when you get a snow day. Enjoy.

Al, Folks,
Thank you for the direction to more information on these old trucks. I will go over and check it out too. Seems to be getting harder to get motivated, that maybe just what I need!
Regards,
Chris

Ford Folks,
Will try to get in touch with Michael at 3rd Gen on the 32 commercial window channels today. I am in winter hibernation mode for some reason?

Chris

And you NEED a copy of James Wagner's 'Ford Trucks since 1905'. You will be riveted!

Folks,
I did get the lower window glass track out of the drivers door also a plate that had bee added to reinforce/ support a missing door guide.
Still learning here. 3rd Gen did not have window kits, Joes Antique Auto did not have anything, Refereed me to Ecklers, I didnt call them yet.
Anyway Since I got this steel channel off and may have the small intermediate channel which may be broken? So maybe I can figure the parts out, and then may just need the felt parts not the steel channels?
Today I am recovering from a successful whitetail hunt last evening. Have been deer hunting since I could carry a gun. Used the click and boom fire stick to take a nice doe behind our place. First time I ever tracked one in the dark. Just another thing I need to do to balance my life I guess. So we wont starve for a while.
Regards,
Chris

Folks,
Checked with Fred. The phone number is correct and worked. He does not handle the window felt. I did talk to Joe at Snyders and they have window felt channel up to 31 pick up. Anybody out there know if these would work in the 32 door channels?
Regards,
Chris

My vehicles aren’t restorations, and I don’t know what the felts on a ‘32 look like but I bought mine at a auto glass installers shop. Came in an eight foot length I think……. Mark

Mark, folks,
Good suggestion! I thought of that today too. That might be the ticket. Mine is not a restoration for sure. But would like to make some improvements. This glass really rattles bad.

Chris

I bought the side channels for my 34 BB from Steele Rubber Products. They fit and work well. They are probably the same as for your 32. I do not know for sure.
