Clutch and brake pedal shaft removal???

Just wondering if anyone has removed this on a 1930 model without taking the transmission out??? I’ve thought about trying to cut part of it off and weld something like a slide hammer on after grinding the head off the pin and driving it down. Tell me where I’m wrong or how you did it in the car?? Thanks for the information.

The difficulty in my opinion is the removal and installation of the rivet that holds the shaft in place. I did it with the bell housing out of the truck and it was not easy.

I have done it 4 times and have demonstrated it to the TCMAFC Club and Mid State A's. You need to have access to a Oxy / propane or Oxy acetylene torch in order to put some heat into the areas you need to work. additional items needed which help greatly is an air hammer and you can make a puller from common plumbing parts but you will need someone to make a quick weld to create the puller tool. I have some video clips and a power point that I used but had to supplement with me talking about the steps as the videos and still photos came up on screen. I wanted to thank MLeder publicly for his offer to show me how to do the removal of the clutch/brake shaft. I was lucky in that I didn’t have to use any heat but still used his process in general. It worked great and success was achieved

As You can see the shaft was worn badly and needed replacing. The clutch pedal had lots of slop in it but it as new now as is the brake pedal. I would suggest this method unless you plan on removing the trans anyway. The pin or rivot is not mushroomed on the bottom but I guarantee it’s not going anywhere.

I personally would not attempt it as you ae likely to paint yourself into a corner. I have done countless numbers of them, and all on a workbench. Attached is how I do them.

My limited experience is that the shaft is going to fight you, there is not much room to work, remember there is gas close by, if the shaft requires replacement there are probably more wear close by, and you will be pulling the transmission before long. This is just a teaser.

Bob is right but where’s the excitement in doing it right the first time. Odds are really good as he says that more stuff is worn and will need work soon but if yours goes as easy as mine did it’s worth trying to get a few miles.
