Default 1938 with 8BA wiring challenge

I have a 38 conv sedan with a 1949 8BA engine and generator.
Question: How can I wire the generator to provide charging to battery and operate factory ammeter? The car is equipped with a voltage regulator.
Thank you for your expertise in advance!

Run the original wire that went to your cut out to the bat terminal on the VR. Simple as that.

How do I wire the Ground and Field posts and the rear post of the generator? It’s from a 49 truck?

It is preferred to have three wires in a harness to connect from the generator to the voltage regulator. Depending on the generator an armature wire from the rear terminal on the generator to the armature terminal on the regulator. From the field terminal on the side of the generator to the field terminal on the regulator. From the ground terminal on the side of the generator or if it does not have that ground terminal then from under one of the generators thru bolts to one of the mounting screws of the regulator base. The original battery wire that was on the cutout on top of the third brush generator can now be connected to the battery terminal on the voltage regulator. Your ammeter on the dash is still connected as original and will read the charge. Regards, Kevin.

Koates said it all. I have done this many times. When you do a nice job using a 49 engine wiring harness it can look very factory. Tim
