Retired this month and just wanted to show off the cake my family gave me at the party they threw for me, looked awesome and tasted even better. Ahh Model A's, cake, and the time to enjoy both. Don't get NO better than that. Thanks for lettin me spout off. Clyde

Re: Retired at last
Clyde--Congrats!!! I am also recently retired...the best part is there is more time to enjoy the Model A.....I now drive it several times a week...whenever I go to the store or have an errand to run, the a gets the nod. Cake also looked good.....sounds like you have a nice and loving family, as well as a Model A!

Re: Retired at last
I'm also "retired" but not by choice, laid off almost 23 mo ago with 2 1/2 wks of unemployment left and no job prospects, but drove the A all summer and getting ready to put it up for the winter, except for "good" days.

Re: Retired at last
Of course there is always guys like me
I should have retired 4 years ago, but the old mighty (?) dollar kept me from it. BUT: I have used my "retirement work" income to fund my Model A hobby, something I would never have been able to do without going back to work. My wife will be eligible to retire in a couple of years, and I might think about it then, but in the meantime, I'm enjoying my 31 CCPU with what little time I can spend on it. |

Congrats to you Clyde. Wishing you all the best!
My wife has an Uncle who retired last year and he says "That now he is retired he wakes up every morning with nothing to do, ...and every evening when he goes to bed he only gets about ½ of it done! |

Re: Retired at last
Been retired since December 1981. Sure glad I've had this A hobby; keeps me young and the brain working; a little slower than I use to be but that has to be expected.

Re: Retired at last
Good for you Clyde - you're going to love being retired - like being on vacation every day. I retired last January. One project was to get my '30 roadster running after 18 years of hibernation. I'd had a lot of fun with it when my family was young, then stored it. Jacked her up, drained the radiator and gas and ran out the carburator, then dumped a qt of oil in the gas tank, more oil int the spark pluig holes, covered her with some old sheets, and that was it. Recently bought a battery, put in fresh gas, ran out the oil till gas came flowing, filed the points a little, rolled her over by crank a little, then hit the starter and she started right up like she had been running yesterday. And yes, she certainly did smoke for a while. Had the neighbors all coming to their windows. I did have to replace the cork gasket for the glass sediment bowl, which was leaking.
But that Cradlescyth - he retired in 1962 when I was just a freshman in high school. He's the guy I emulate. Man, I had to do my 40 years. Last edited by ed stanley; 11-24-2010 at 02:57 PM. Reason: I don't know where that "thumbs down" icon came from - but I can't seem to get rid of it. It should be a "thumbs up" |

Re: Retired at last
Clyde, you will like it, I have been retired for fifteen months, the one thing I like is not having to get up in the dark anymore. I told my Mother that I should clone myself two more times then maybe I could catch up on my stuff, I seem to have something to do all the time. Grandkids and tinkering in the barn. Again congratulations.

Re: Retired at last
At 72 Yrs, Ive been retired for a couple of yrs, but still do a few ice machines. And I am not at a loss for things to do, enjoy a nap and sleep well at night. Some good advise is don't stop what you enjoy doning, and do a little of it every day. I still drive the old girl every day. I'm the only guy down here that has a truck older then him, and driven daily. Iceman

Re: Retired at last
Retirement is kinda like the first day of summer vacation when I was in high school. Freedom to do whatever you like. I retired in 2003 and I'm busy every day.

Re: Retired at last
Boy I thought I had been retired a long time till I read about that fella being retired since '62. How'd ya pull that off? But also being 72, I still have my toys. I love Snowmobiling, ATVing, Dunebuggying, Motorhoming and now my latest prize, a totally restored '30 coupe. And I've been enjoying my retirement for over 18 years.
