Wow, nice looking low mileage original 38 standard tudor sedan, with a very rare automatic transmission, for only $5500.00!!! This sounds too good to be true.

A lot of stuff on Craigslist is less than honest. If they have no phone contact, then it makes you wonder why. I've seen a few trying to sell cars that didn't belong to them. They sometimes get caught when someone recognizes the car and contacts the owner or the local police. It's makes you wonder why folks will purchase an antique vehicle without a title or registration document. A bill of sale can be bogus.

I have actually wondered about this. I am always checking out cars on CL and come across "too good to be true" cars. Almost 100% of the time there is no contact information. So how does this scam work? You can only email them thru the CL server. I just don't get it.

Lots of scams on Craigslist. Right now on the San Francisco Craigslist there is a real nice restored '39 Convertible sedan for $17,000 with a very vague description. Just rechecked and it's already been removed! Somebody was paying attention.

if you put your phone number in a craigslist ad, prepare to be constantly bombarded with bogus calls and texts at all hours of the day. There are scam buyers and sellers. The craigslist email relay protects your identity by masking it from the bad guys. In my experience, the bogus buyers send vague questions always about the "vehicle", in regards to things you clearly entered into the ad. With a scam seller, all you can do is protect yourself, make sure all the documents are in place, and go with a friend and a "piece".

I had a friend that used CL to sell items he had tired of. When he got a return call, he would make note of the number but not respond. When the same number came in six times in more than a week, he would then try to deal. Even then some were a bust.

If you're selling a car, buy a burner phone and use that number. Chuck it when your done. Even if using the C-List e-mail system, a person still has to communicate and eventually get face to face to sell something of that nature. Nothing like that is ever completely fool proof.

That is one neat old 1938 Ford Standard Tudor Sedan. It is just sad that scum bags try to make money anyway they can, by conning innocent people. It was sold on eBay for $9250, but is now for sale at just $5500. go figure?

I bought a used Tracfone from eBay for $7 shipped, I activate for a month or so and use that # on CL for ads, I ignore the txt's and answer during reasonable hours.

Noticed that it has the typical bent hood problem! That hood prop was a bad idea for sure.

It was my car and it legit sold through eBay. I have had calls from WA and FL since the sale so whatever the Craigslist scam is it really gets around. I never even had it for sale on Craigslist!

It was a neat little v8 60 car and I love the 38 standard models. However, it's hard to beat the 85 horse 221 or the big brother 239 merc in the 37 to 40s. They really pull much better than the little 60s!

I remember my great uncle saying he test drove a new 60. They were the frugal sort but ended up springing for the 85 because the 60 was under-powered.
