Speedometer not registering
I recently purchased a 1928 Model A Roadster that was off-body restored -- and am enjoying it immensely! The speedo and cable are new but speedo does not register when driving. I am handy with tools as a serious woodworker, but I am unsure how to determine if the cable at the speedo end is not making contact or could it be at the other cable end? As a "still agile" 76-year youngster I can certainly get under the Roadster if necessary.
I have read quite a few previous threads on this FordBarn.com but can't quite find simplified instructions or guidances. Sure hope to participate more in the Forum in the future. |

Re: Speedometer not registering
The after market cables are usually too short and require a spacer in the drive gear end. Push the cable all the way into the drive gear and measure how much sticks out of the speedometer end. Then subtract that measurement from 5/16". Cut a #10 machine screw to that length and slide it into the drive gear. When done speedometer end of the cable should stick out about 5/16" with a little pressure on it. That should fix your problem.
