1934 ford air Cleaner Restoration Help

I could use some advice on how to disassemble and reassemble an air cleaner for restoration.
I have been looking it over and can not figure out how to get it apart with damage. I would like to be able to sand blast it, paint and put in new screen.

My method is to carefully cut 2 of the 3 'legs' that span the opening once the
top cover is removed. I cut the 2 legs in the middle and fold back the 3rd leg, I fold
the 2 stubs back also. With that done you have access to remove the old element
and eventually install the new one. I'd strongly advise to NOT blast the air cleaner,
it is near impossible to remopve sand or glass beads or any media from the housing,
just when you think it's clean another pile of grit sprinkles out. Anyway after the
thing is all freshened up lay a couple thickness's of wax paper in the opening and
after a good night rest carefully fold the new element and begin working it in place
in the air cleaner, the wax paper does a good job protecting the new paint. After the new element is installed fold the 2 cut legs back in place and wrap each cut in thin
gauge metal ( brass or tin can stock ) and solder the legs back together.

It is so easy to cut down on the air flow through the filter by changing the filter material and not knowing you have done so. Any reduction of flow will cause a richer mixture. I think ford instructions of cleaning with gasoline(Stoddards solution would be safer) drying, then coating with engine oil is sufficient if done often enough.

I just cut up and pulled out all the old screen, repainted the body and compressed new screen and mesh back thru one of the openings.....yes I scratched the paint around the opening but then sanded it and touched up just that area and no one has ever noticed.

Sandblasting has the problem of getting the sand out of the inner chambers
