'46 Convertible Top Pump
I'm installing the convertible top pump in my '46 Super Deluxe. It was not installed when I bought the car so i'm not sure about the correct way that it's supposed to go. Is the valve/switch upside down? The wires and actuating rod don't seem to line up. How about the pump? Does the orientation look correct? Is the power ran from the battery or the stater? Pictures would be great!

Re: '46 Convertible Top Pump
In my 48 I have the diverter mounted opposite of the way yours is and everything lines up .
Remember you have two high pressure hoses from pump to valve . There should be two holes in the firewall for these. As far as I can see by your picture the pump looks right . Run your feed fro battery side of starter solenoid. I used a #4 wire. You also will need a short woven ground strap from motor to firewall . There is a screw on back side of pump housing for attaching and use any good ground bolt on firewall. If you need any pictures let me know.good luck |

Re: '46 Convertible Top Pump
Thanks for the information, it got me on the right track. I had to relocate the circuit breaker for the diverter/switch wires to reach. I'll order the hoses and the #4 wire. I could not find a ground screw or hole for a ground screw on the pump. I'll also need to get some 3/16" rod because my actuating rod is too short.

Re: '46 Convertible Top Pump
Glad it helped, I had trouble with the diverter leaking. I also jacked the pressure up on the pump and broke the top half of the diverter. You should measure the pressure at the cylinders . I think I was told about 110 psi but check with hydro e lectric in Florida .
