If so then the hole in the tube should be twice the volume (5/64").
If there is no restrictor hole anywhere on the inlet side, then the hole in the return tube appears to be acting as the restricion hole. (probably early design )
In the recent restoration of my 59A engine, I only found one outlet hole in the center pipe and no restrictor fittings in either end of the inlet line. I figured that the one hole was acting as the restrictor but I was nervous about it and added one at the canister. In the 1960's we drove the truck continuously with no problems, on the farm and around the county, delivering farm products.

1950 & 1951 8BA (Canadian engines, civilian) no restrictors and one hole only in both. I believe they are unmolested engines.

Jack, I guess I may be wrong on the restrictors. I believe it was used on the 59ab engines with the fitting at the bellhousing and thought all of them had it. But, there have been several post where people claim to have the filter without the inlet side restrictor. So, maybe the early ones didn't have it.
