Default Papanick still in business?

I found papa nick in the swap meet section that he rebuilds speedometers. Sent him mine and get it back in a timely manner but it sat until I finished my rebuild on my 31tudorr. When I first drove it was off 9mph based on my gps. I have emailed him several times without a response.
Does anyone know if he is still in business?

Is it possible that you have the wrong gear on the drive shaft?

As Neil asks above, you may have the wrong gear in the drive. I suggest you go for a drive - the longer the better and check the distance in your modern car. If the Model A odometer gives the same reading as the modern, it is the speedo part of your instrument that is doubtful. If the distance is different by about the same 9%, it is the drive gear at the bottom end of the cable. Change it (probably by 2 teeth) and you'll be good.
You didn't say whether your speedo was reading high or low so I can't say whether you need more or less teeth on the drive gear. If it is reading slow, you need 2 less teeth. If it is reading fast, 2 less. If you change the gear, be careful to put the new one on facing the same way as the old one was.

Changing the gear is a good idea as mentioned above. On a measured course my speedometer was 5.4% low with a 19 tooth gear. I purchased an 18 tooth gear from one of the vendors and now my speedometer/odometer is spot-on. Rationale is that with one less gear a full revolution is a little faster. Since yours is 9% off a two gear change should make it perfect or almost perfect. The repair is easy, just two bolts. When ordering the gear also order the gasket and lube the gear when installing. Good luck! G.D.

GPS has a significant error. Try driving past a radar speed sign in a school zone.

Both GPS and radar need a constant speed over a significant period of time to be accurate.

I agree. Put two in the same car and you’ll see that they usually will disagree with one another ! At best It’s a guesstimate.

The comment about radar needing a significant period of time to register is wrong.
