Default Ottwell Health heater questions

I bought a '31 sedan that came out of a barn and inside the car I found this piece in the pictures below. It has the words 'INTAKE STOVE OTTWELL DETROIT' on it. I am assuming that it has to do with the door in the firewall. Am I placing this part right in the pictures? I have never seen one of these before and it fills up that little air gap between the manifold and the fire wall. let me know if this is exactly how this piece is supposed to be used.

Was there suppose to be a lover or something to direct the airflow?

That is what I am asking. Seeing that scoop thing I was wondering if it was just that. the funny notches in the scoop make me think it would go somewhere else. any other ideas fordbarn experts?

Your missing the heater manifold. The square part goes in the engine compartment and hooks to the heater. You have the piece that's impossible to find.

Look close at the 3rd photo, the heater is there. I don't think the part he is asking about goes to this setup. Normally there would just be a short section of flex pipe between the heater and door on the firewall and the shutters on the inside would direct the heat.

Interesting! And all along I thought a soup can plus a bit of sheet metal was all there was. I am still discovering farmer fixes on my car.

You could use a tomato paste can too!
