Default Check Engine Light? and Bad Parts

So I guess these old A's have the equivalent of a CHECK ENGINE light. I'm driving today and it starts to putter out as I turn and then I hit the gas and it revives. I get home and know there is a problem because it told me so (in its own way). I open the hood and sure enough the carb is leaking gas. I put a new float and seat in one year ago...almost to the day! I remove the float and sure enough it has gasoline in it.

I can hear it when I shake it and I drove a nail into it and out poured the gasoline. I happened to have another float and all is well. No further comment (you know what I mean).

I use a hair dryer or heat gun to warm the float and make the gas squirt out. Then I can see where it got in and solder it closed.

I worked on a 1964 Dodge years ago, and the brass float kept developing new cracks a few weeks after I soldered the other cracks, so I had to replace that one. Most of the time you can solder the crack and be good for years.
