Default Door Latch Mechanism Fordor Town Sedan Briggs

Hi Model A friends,

I am owning a 1930 Fordor Town Sedan Deluxe by Briggs 165-D and yesterday the drivers side hatch spring of the door locking mechanism broke.

I took everything apart to find the source of the problem, the hatch itself had to be opened for this purpose and after replacing the broken spring I need to point weld the housing again.

my question now is: does anyone know, where I can get the locking mechanism as a complete spare part ??

You may be able to get a good used one from Bert's. They also offer a "rebuilding kit" for latches.

Good luck. I asked and the last time I checked they did not have any. And no repo's are made.

thank you for this info, not good news. Meanwhile I decided, that the re-assembling will not end with point welding, I will use at least five screws and this should give it the same stability and next time the spring brakes, I need only a screwdriver instead a grinder...

no one makes rebuild kits for those latches. and there are three different latches used and the parts will Not interchange. if your latches are welded, they have been apart before none of the three were originally welded. if the ears brake off i will tack weld them back together. they do make some springs to replace broken ones

Hope we are not bothering him too much; however, if there is a question about "Model A Locks", the "Model A Lock" expert is Mr. Dick Crabtree. As a vintage Model A locksmith, he may be able to, at the very least, point you in the right direction.

Thank you guys, I use the time until arrival of the replacement springs to measure the entire lock for a future reproduction, using a 3D-printer makes it easy to create a cast model for that...

..I just wanted to make sure, that I am not wasting my time to wait for a turn key reproduction solutions...

Thank you all...
