Sport coupe trunk lid channels
I'm piecing together a Sport Coupe body. Got new trunk drain channels (from Brattons) because the '29 didn't have any. Do they go on the inside of the quarter panel or the outside of the T trim strip or between the two? Also, should they match the quarter panel curve exactly or is there some leeway?
Thanks in advance. RB |

Re: Sport coupe trunk lid channels
They go on the outside of the T strips. The T strips were spot welded to the quarterpanels.

Re: Sport coupe trunk lid channels
Rusty,
For clarification, from outside in, it's quarter panel, t-strips and finally the drain channels are in the trunk opening, correct? And thanks for your help. RB |

Dave Mc is correct. You should already have the T strips in place unless, for some reason, someone drill out the spot welds and removed them - not an easy task since they extend down to the rear body crossmember requiring the panel below the trunk to be removed first.

Re: Sport coupe trunk lid channels
I am in the process of installing new rain gutters in my 29 roadster. My car was missing the gutter/channel also. There appears to be remnants of sealer or gasket on the edge of the T strip that contacts the gutter.Should there be sealer between the gutter and T strip?
thanks Keith |

Re: Sport coupe trunk lid channels
A sealer between the T strips and the gutter is probably not necessary with the care we take and treat our cars. It wouldn't hurt to put some electrical friction tape if you desire. You do need to install it with a glue, like contact cement, as it wont stick very well to anything except itself. Ford did originally put a friction tape like material in many places including the channel on 28/29 runningboard grooves and other places I have seen it when dismanteling my cars. It is to reduce or eliminate squeaks.
