Years ago before the guy in San Diego started making brass floats I used the brass floats out of Tillotson carburetors. Was a time when you could pick them up at a swap meet for $5., salvage the float and discard the carburetor. They fit though the gas gauge opening. I never had an issue with them banging against the tank when it is full of fuel. My Victoria has had a Tillotson float it it for the past 27 years.

According to a recent poster he found a Christmas Tree light bulb being used as a gas gauge float. I wonder which color works best and at night time if you can read the gauge better?
