Default timing

I have an issue that doesn’t make sense to me, could use some help! with number one piston at TDC ( only have a scribe mark on pulley) and rotor pointing to #1 pointer lines up! when I put a timing light on it, it shows a good 1/2 in advanced. The only thing I did was change the timing cover, it was OK before that! using a vacuum gauge I get the same results, car is running and starts right up with just turn of the key???

If you are referring to a later, 8BA engine, there are different timing covers and versions with provisions for putting the pointer in more than one location.

Perhaps this is the problem?

thanks for the quick reply, but that’s the first thing I checked before I put the new cover in.
