35 ford tudor sedan
Why does our 35 ford tudor sedan slant back only have one door lock on the passenger side door? Is this typical back then or mismatched doors?

Re: 35 ford tudor sedan
That's the way they were all built here in the US. Ford felt it was safer to enter and exit the car on passenger side, out of the way of traffic, rather than on driver side, in the path of traffic.

Re: 35 ford tudor sedan
Another reason was, you would have to unlock the passenger door and open it for the ladies? Jack.

Buick, also, had the doorlocks, only on the passenger side, and for safty sake . I think that was the same for all GM, but not positive.

Gentlemen unlock the passenger door for the passenger and she reaches over and unlocks the drivers door.

Re: 35 ford tudor sedan
My Dad born in 1922 told me when I bought my '35 Tudor and asked him about the door lock thing he indicated the same as B-nut and shoe box jack, gentlemen unlocked and open for the ladies first then she unlock the driver side for you. Probably the safety thing is the real reason. The other is probably a kind-of a nice nostalgic memory of the "Good ole Days"

Possibly a habit left over from the Model "T" days?

Re: 35 ford tudor sedan
If you know someone in the countries that built 35 Ford tudor slant back sedans with RHD, you could have them ship you a left side door with lock assembly. Then you could have locking doors on both sides .

Re: 35 ford tudor sedan
My uncle had a good job with the phone company way back when. He told us that they were putting a decal on the driver's door of all company vehicles stating, "CURB SIDE- SAFE SIDE." They didn't want people getting in or out of the car on the "traffic" side. With bucket seats and consoles now, there's no way to get in on the curb side and make it over to the driver's side. My cars now, if they have a lock, have it only on the driver's door.

Re: 35 ford tudor sedan
My'46 Ford coupe had locks on both doors, mayby this was just on Super Deluxe. My '53 Ford F-100 had just on passenger side but again Custom Cab may have had both as I have seen NOS ones sold in pairs.
