Default Interesting letters stamped into block

See photo.

This is on an original unrestored 1929 Fordor. The letters are "R" and "Y", positioned in that space between #2 and #3 exhaust ports. I didn't notice them until after I painted the block before putting the manifolds back on. When I pulled the broken exhaust manifold, the block was all rust around there, so I cleaned it up, sanded it lightly, and shot some Ford green enamel to keep it from rusting again. After it dried for a few days, I went put the new manifold on and noticed the letters as seen.

Very, very interesting. Any idea what might be the purpose of these stampings?

I think your car may have been owned by actor Robert Young and he could have stamped his initials there in case it was ever stolen. ;^)
