Default ***Model 40 Seat Questions***

Hi all. I am trying to piece together a '34 phaeton and was wondering if the Fordor front seat is the same (or close) as the phaeton? I've only seen vague pictures of both and they appear to have the same curve???

Cheers!

Not even on the same planet . A 4d seat is just a metal pan-back . Phaeton is wood mainly .

Pretty sure the center door post attaches to the seat frame on a phaeton . Not so on a 4d . The tin seat from a 4d looks pretty weak in that area so at a GUESS I would say it would not work out well . The wood guys should be able to supply the proper wood one ?!?

Hello Mike P., We have a '36 Phaeton. In our car the front seat is most certainly fixed in place. The back of the seat is wood from drivers to passengers sides. The seat bottom is a lift-up-and-remove deal, to reveal storage below. It sits down over two pegs in the wooden bottom which forms the storage box. The seat bottom is wood with springs and coverings and is fixed in place, it doesn't slide. The closed car seat is made from a whole different parts box. The dimensions of the body are the same inside.

I can get pictures if needed, but again, mine's a '36.

One of our helpful members, G.M., has a '33 Phaeton. I clipped this photo from his website www.fordcollector.com

Here's a pic of the seat in my car. Sorry I don't have any pics without the upholstery. The seat back frame is wood with metal reinforcements and a tin back. It is fastened to the door posts with screws as shown. The bottom cushion sits on a wood riser about 2 1/2 inches high (guess)
Don't know if any of the wood guys make the back frame. Roy N or Dick S may have it.

Mike here's a shots of a 34 phaeton seat frame ,you maybe could use the natural curve of a car roof from a junk yard, Or just start with a flat sheet ,it sits up a little so you have the foot rest for the back seat passengers ,
