I don't believe myself to be an expert, but I would encourage you to find a Y block and put it in that engine bay. Period correct and very enjoyable.

If you are sold on a small block ford, go over to the HAMB and join up with the 52-59 Ford Social Group over there... they are always posting about this idea of putting small blocks in 55 or 56's and what it takes to get it done. If the 6 cylinder is an original, you may want to make a post about selling that one. There are people who want them from time to time. Good way to get some cash back.

I am the Moderator for the H.A.M.B. 52-59 Ford Group ( http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/g...hp?groupid=332 ) it would be a good idea to post your location so we could help you find the parts you need for the swap.

Jeff's link above has all the info you need. It is not hard to do at all and plenty of people have done it.
