PER Hemming's Ad. An AACA National First Place AT quick glance..... with the incorrect fuel pump, 36 intake manifold, 37steering wheel, 36 Dual Gauges and it's "READY to SHOW". NOT bashing George here BUT.......reality of the car when I look at it and come to a price in my mind!!!

An AACA award is nice, but the marque-specific club awards are more meaningful.

Last time I was at George’s I considered his cars a step above a average driver and a step below a show car. Regardless the prices did not reflect their quality and all were bargains unless those prices are the new “normal”

Wow!! What happened to the front axle on that '34 "hot rod"? It looks like they just slapped in a later "spring-ahead" front suspension. Not too crazy about the color or the blue line tires and "boy racer"wheels either.

Are you sure that's one of GM's cars?

Good prices for a fella looking to get into the hobby, looking at the glass as half full. Auctions are a gamble. An unfinished 34 roadster near my home town brought 54k. Needed paint, included upholstery to be installed, and overhauled engine/transmission to be installed.

tubman,

I believe what you are seeing on the front axle of the 34 Roadster is a bracket for a steering stabilizer.

Nope. Look at the position of the wheels in the front fender. Although you can see it in the picture in the post, it's not very obvious. Click the link to the Mecum ad and you'll see what I mean.

The site info says it has a Buick V-6 and an auto trans.. maybe that has something to do with the axle being moved.......Mark

Who knows. It appears quite "out of character" with the rest of the collection.

In my opinion the prices represent the paint/body work and upholstery prices. Kind of getting the car for free above those costs. I'm 70 and love my stock flatheads but you can see the market shift.

In todays resto-mod world, a nice straight classic is a rarity. People want speed and custom. The local car shows is slam packed full of them. The market is in their favor but one day the tide will turn and authenticity will be valued. There are deals out there. I believe it's a buyers market for real antiques.

Auctions like this seem to be wholly dependent upon the specific auction - how it was marketed, where it's located, what time of year it's held.

Even within Mecum events you'll find prices all over the place. Compare these Kissimmee results to that from the Dallas auction, which had much more marketing buzz and wasn't held at the height of summer in a hot location.

I wouldn't say the sky is falling. There are a lot of younger guys that would like to have EFV8 cars (albeit more to hot rod than restore), but simply can't because they're still so expensive.

I'm one of the guys who are ok with falling prices. It means more people my age can get into the hobby and maybe, just maybe, I won't be one of two local members of the Early Ford V8 Club in 30 years.
The trick now is to get the people who are buying these cars interested in the cars as manufactured, instead of cutting them up.

NO AFFILIATION: But I saw this last night while cruising the 'Craigslist strip'. I was on Seattle CL and this one is in neighboring British Columbia. I just thought it looked like a nice driver and quite original at an entry level price. Always liked this body style.

So that's roughly 10K US, right? Yeah, that's a deal on a pretty darn nice car.

Well, if I'd been there, that '34 wagon would have been sold to me. A Ford woodie, all my life, that's the ultimate trophy. Who knew you could buy a good one for $30k. Like others have said, that Mecum auction was the wrong venue for those cars. True, prices are going down for all the reasons cited, but these vehicles should have done better.
