Re: 40 Gas Tank
Adapters are available so that the OEM 6 bolt sender can be used.

Re: 40 Gas Tank
Adapters are available
I used a TANKS polyethylene tank. Redrilled the plastic for the OEM sender and used nutserts to create threads. You have to be very careful that you position the sender so that it has room to "work" inside the tank as the plastic tank has a different internal shape than the OEM tank. It also does not have a bottom drain plug, comes closer to the exhaust pipe as it's deeper and doesn't accept the stock gas tank fasteners. If I were to do it all over, I would be patient and try to locate a good used tank. If that was impossible, I would buy a repro 14 gal. metal tank and drill the tank to fit the OEM sending unit. Before filling it with gas I would install a drain plug on the bottom of the tank also. After installing the tank, I would fill it with water with the sending unit installed to see if it registers correctly on the gauge. The plastic tank is larger than the OEM tank - 16 instead of 14 gal. Using the OEM tank is the easiest way to go with the least amount of problems to solve. Someone must have one to sell. Re: 40 Gas Tank
Opps! Sorry. I thought the adapter you need was available.
Since it is not , it wouldn't be too difficult to make one if you have round stock and tools. |

Re: 40 Gas Tank
Check around on new tanks. As I recall someone makes a tank that will accept both types of senders. I think it might be Drake.

Re: 40 Gas Tank
Found a new tank that accepts both OEM bolt flange and aftermarket 5 bolt flange senders. Midwest Early Ford Store had itin stock. I’m going to pick it up Saturday. Thanks to all that responded and PM’d with offers and suggestions.
