Default 35 / 36 roadster side curtain & bracket sack interest?

I am contemplating reproducing the canvas sack for the side curtains and brackets. This would be a high quality - accurate reproduction.
I am attempting to gauge interest prior to moving forward. The canvas is pricey. Also, to do these nicely, a fair amount of labor is required.

I'm thinking $250ish.

So, what say you gents?

If I had a 35/6 open car I would definitely be interested, that sounds like a very fair price. The original side curtains I have that came with my 33 standard phaeton had no bag and they are pretty large and bulky. I don't even know if the phaetons had a bag for the side curtains.

Tan. It'll be a close match the authentic top material The T14 that is still available these days is way too green for my liking.

You're not going to need side curtains, as tough as you Wisconsinites are during Wisconsin winters

That 'greenish' T14 material must be what they are using on Model A Ford Roadster tops today too. I always thought those tops were a tad more tannish than what you see today.

Oh well at least somebody is making the stuff, what do I know

Mike,

For what it is worth, I've an original side curtain pouch for '35-'36 phaetons and it is made of long/short grain artificial leather like the tool pouches and the closed car top insert material, not T-14 top material. (I suspect that the same material was used originally for the roadster pouch.) Its construction is similar to those for earlier open car side curtains and rods. Likely using the modern vinyl equivalent material would reduce the cost of your endeavor.

What are the dimensions of the bag you are thinking of making? My side curtains are stacked on top of each other and can tell if the bag you make would work for me.

It should work as a '35-'36 roadster door curtain is wider than either of the two door curtains on a '33-'34 phaeton. I haven't measured the two different heights, however. You would of course have a thicker stack with four door curtains and the quarter curtains compared to just two door curtains on the roadster (not counting the small curtain pieces), plus four more side curtain rods than the roadster.

The subject top material (T-14) is available by special order from Haartz Corporation (Acton, MA) in their Stayfast line in the both the early V8 era green on tan and the Model A green on green fabrics. Haartz was the source for LeBaron Bonney' material.

I'd bet Ford made those bags out of anything he had available, T14, long-grain leatherette, burlap, canvas. He didn't waste nuttin'.

David,

Thanks for posting photos of your side curtain container assembly (Ford's name for it). It appears to be identical to my original for '35-'35 phaetons in the photo below with the same odd three pocket arrangement for eight side curtain rods. The dimensions of that in the photo are approximately 37" x 20" with the flap open (18" high with the flap closed) which may be slightly wider than that for '33-'34 phaeton given that the front doors on the '35-'36s are wider.

Coincidentally, the container in the photo is made from copra drab artificial upholstery material like that in your phaeton on the doors and quarter trim panels.
