Vintage horn
The following is an attachment of a vintage horn that has been circulated to our Queensland Model A Club members in an attempt to identify its origin and vehicle it may have been attached to.
It has the following on the plate," E.A. LABORATORIES INC MFGR hand horn Series 2". .Any ideas |

Re: Vintage horn
it may not have a "home" so to speak. Im sure just like today there were universal horns out there at auto parts stores.

Re: Vintage horn
Horns were sold in auto parts stores to add on to your car or motorcycle. The bracket on the bottom suggests the latter.

Re: Vintage horn
I have a smaller version of that horn for my antique bicycle. Once I lubed the gears it works quite well.

Re: Vintage horn
That type of button activated horn is often referred to as a Bermuda Bell horn, but I have no idea where the name came from or what it has to do with the island. Remember when we referred to dress shorts as Bermuda shorts?

Re: Vintage horn
Ok. How's this?
I have one exactly like the one pictured,in better condition, painted OD Green. The guy that gave it to me claimed they were used on Higgins boats in WW II? |

Re: Vintage horn
Thanks for all your replies, I have passed them on. It does seem that it ir a generic horn that could have been fitted to anything. Apparently it was used as follows, and I quote, "This is the horn we used* to pass around the Redcliffe & Chermside pictures in the fifties to upset the ushers" Good stuff.

Re: Vintage horn
Not a Bermuda bell, they fit under the floor boards and are stepped on to ring. Would look like a desk bell only much larger.
The horn shown is an aftermarket klaxon type that could be fitted to any car or truck. I would venture to say most were sold to replace bulb type horns before most cars used electric horns. They were made in different sizes. Generally the ones for bikes or motorcycle were much smaller. |
