engine paint
Am about to install an overhauled engine but need to paint it first. I am aware that Ford Engine Green is the correct colour but am unable to find an equivalent colour in Australia. We are unable to import paint due to flight safety restrictions.
Any equivalent colour suggestions available in Australia would be appreciated. |

Re: engine paint
I know there are some Aussies on here that would know. Maybe call one of the Aussie model a stores and see what they say.

Re: engine paint
I'm sure i read somewhere on this forum that John Deere green with a bit (I don't know how much) of black makes a good representation of the original ford engine green. Might be worth an experiment or two.

Re: engine paint
I have the paint chip catalog. I mix one part john deere green and one part rustoleum gloss black. Its very inexpensive compared to the dealers.

Re: engine paint
whatever you do buy more or mix more than enough - i bought a few spraycans from different suppliers, one suppliers can was pretty "normal" ford green - almost like a British racing green. One had more blue tint to it and didnt match, one as darn near black it was so dark of a green...

Re: engine paint
Do you have rustoleum paint there?
In gloss Rustoleum it is 2 parts forest green 1 part flag blue 1 part black

Re: engine paint
I mix my own 'cause the dealers charge too much for spray cans.
Mike V 's combination is very - very close 2 parts Rustoleun Forest Green, 1 part flag blue, 1 part black. I bough quarts of each and mix a baby food jar at the time. Keep it sealed - tight. kenb |

Re: engine paint
Thanks everyone for your replies. I went to the local paint shop and got him to mix up some John Deere Green then he added some black and a small amount of blue. The end result is not perfect but close enough. Other than images on the internet, I don't have a sample to compare it with.

Re: engine paint
I'm sure Keith Eastwood of "Henry's MOdel T and A parts" would have some. ( (03) 5368 1088)
If your car is Canadian, as most are here, Ford green is not correct, I have been told. The Canadians used a more grey colour. Any Canuks reading??? If you PM me with your address, I'll send you a patch from my can (of green) and you can have it matched at your local hardware store.

Mike V - does it matter if the black is flat or gloss?

Re: engine paint
$15.95 a pint. The problem with home made is it looks homemade. A spray can of engine paint is $6.95 at Snyders or $15.95 a pint can. I can't believe most people can't afford this. Wayne

Re: engine paint
KBS Coatings produce a green that is darker than the USA engine green, and closer to the dark green that was used here. They even call it Ford engine green. Made in Australia too.

Re: engine paint
Take one of your present painted parts to a local paint shop that has a color analyzer. This is the unit paint shops use for matching auto body collision repairs. They can mix a can of paint or provide an aerosol attachment similar to a rattle can type container.
How's that for idea mate? |
