Default Steel or cast iron???

Can anyone tell me by looking at these pics if the drums are original steel or newer cast iron?

The whole package looks like a pretty fair deal, especially if the drums are cast iron.

Also, '30 and '31 brake assemblies are the same, yes?

Thoughts?

Look to be steel.

There was a rough cast brake drum used late in '31, but these don't appear to be.

The 30 or 31 brake components are pretty much identical, at least according to my now obsolete Judging Standards.

This looking sort of like a Model A that got rodded, or someone converting to hydraulics (good luck with that - the limitation on stopping is on the contact with the pavement.)

And turning a steel drum is something fraught with some peril. Whether "ground" or single point turned. (Better ground according to some) And there is a "minimum thickness" one doesn't go beyond. Snyders: Old original brake drums should be no less than .130 thick. Fiddybits of this board says ".130 is the minimum for cast drums and the .120 is for steel."
