Spring Covers?
Does anyone use those artificial leather and cloth spring covers that the parts places sell?
I installed a set after correctly saturating the pads with "heavy oil" (I used 600W) per the instructions that came with them. We'll see how they work out over the long run. Any experiences and "stories" - good or bad? Thanks! Earle |

Re: Spring Covers?
I have them on one of my A's. Not really sure I notice any difference one way or the other. I guess it is more "the look" than anything. I kind of like the look of them on the spring, but the springs will still make sounds.

Re: Spring Covers?
Thanks, 31Tudor,
I like the looks too. That's mostly why I got them. My springs are new and were properly lubed when installed. Not making any noises. I'm hoping that the covers may shield the springs from dust and grit and keep the lubrication in place and active. One "down-side" I had heard is that the covers can trap and hold water and moisture leading to accelerated corrosion of the springs - maybe after all the lubrication has dried out? I'll have to keep an eye on that. Earle |

Re: Spring Covers?
I have had the covers on that car for at least 10 years and I have not noticed any corrosion due to the spring covers. From time to time you would probably re-oil them anyway. I think there is enough oil on the pad to prevent problems from moisture that might have gotten in their. Like I said I have not seen a problem related to the covers.

Re: Spring Covers?
I have had and have again a set of N.O.S. Ford spring covers. I have not used, and may not, since they are original. I too like the look of the spring with them on, but have heard the same thing about the rusting. I would think that properly installed and lubed it shouldn't be an issue. my $.02

I'm leaving them on because they look neat. I'll just inspect for corrosion from time to time. Earle |
