Default 223 ci value

So I recently pulled the original 223 out of my 56 Mainline, it ran strong on a recent 100 mile round trip, but it smokes. I have the bellhousing, clutch and all accessories minus the carburetor. What is it worth, if it has any value I would likely sell it but if it is not desirable I’ll keep it as a spare engine in case I buy another project car.

I've got a 223 in my '55 Courier and a second one on the garage floor. There are many folks at the fordsix.com forum playing with these 223's in the "vintage six" forum on that website. They also have a marketplace where you can list parts for sale.
Honestly, most '50's Ford enthusiasts value flathead V8's ('50-53) and Y-blocks ('54-59) more than 6-cyls, but the 223 is probably more popular than the 215 I-block 6-cyl, since the 215 won't fit in '54 and later cars due to frame redesign. You just need to get ahold of the right people. That would be fordsix.com
