39 rear spring
In attempting to assist a friend building a 39 coupe, he has two rear springs to replace the one that came out from under the car that has broken leaves. The spring removed from the car, unladen, measures 42 " outside to outside, and placing a straight edge under each end and measuring to the centre bolt is 10 1/2"
Both the possible replacement springs are genuine Ford as evidenced by the grooved and tapered leaves. One measures 41 1/2" x 10 3/8" so is close to what we removed. The other spring measures 40 1/2" x 7 1/2" - considerably smaller. What would it possibly be out of?

Re: 39 rear spring
Brian, Un-sprung springs really can't be defined by the measurements you'd observed. Rather, the springs are measured under a specific load.
That being said, how many leaves are in each that you are considering using?

Re: 39 rear spring
Look at the top leaf of each spring. There should be a part # stamped in the top spring.
My 40 springs are numbered. Last edited by 19Fordy; 09-19-2021 at 09:51 PM. |
