Default Spray paint

I recall hearing that there was a company that would sell Model A color paints in a spray can. Does anyone know if that is true and which company sells it? Not looking for an exact match just close.

Our local automotive paint supply store can color match your paint and package it in a spray can. Worked great for me on my antique airplane.

Most automotive parts stores will color match and produce the product in a spray can. Not exactly rocket science!

Aircraft dope is still available but aluminum powder is about the only pigment that is added. Clear lacquer is available from a lot of sources. Nitrocellulose lacquer would be a very niche product and I'm not sure if any mom & pop paint company still produces any. Bill Hirsch was the only mom & pop that carried the stuff for a long time. The most common pigment they used was black but they advertised that custom colors were available on request. Since Bill died, I'm not sure if they still handle the stuff but a phone call would answer that question.

Acrylic lacquers took over the market back in the 40s so it hasn't been a common finish material for a long time.

Spray cans are good for small projects but anyone that has painted a car with rattle cans knows that it makes for a sore finger after doing a relatively small panel. It takes a lot of cans to do a big job. The fan is only a few inches wide so coverage is not well overlapped. The type of gas used as a propellant can make a difference in the quality of the finish. Rattle can finishes are never quite as good a a paint gun product properly mixed and shot with compressed air.

For spraying small items black, I have found that ACE Hardware has excellent spray heads on their rattle cans. Ed

Some of you may not realize, that the new spray heads can be turned to adjust the fan spray pattern, to spray either horizontal or vertical.

Bob,
Hawley’s paint in Santa Rosa will make up paint and put in a spray can if you can give them a paint code. If not you’ll need to buff an area of the car to get the color up and have them use their computerized camera to make a color match, they can come pretty close.

Automotive touch up, is another company. Not sure if they have colours for the 'A', but I have had great luck with others. Its called touch up, but you can get any quantity of paint you want, from a small dipper bottle to gallons.

Wesco auto body supply here in Seattle will mix a rattle can with hardner inside. You puncture the hardner inside when you are ready to spray. They have all the original color formulas, downside is it’s $70 a can. Still cheaper than $150.00 and up for a gallon. I have not used it however.

Twenty eight and thirty two dollars is closer to the price of a quart rather than a gallon .

The $28 and 32 was for a spray can, not a quart or a gallon!

TCP will sell spray cans. However the minimum order is one quart. They say 1 quart will fill 8 spray cans. They charge $14 to put the paint in a spray can. That does not include the cost of the paint.
