What stops the steel spacer between the thrust washer and the rear of the case from turning?

That's what I want to know Lawrie.. As some have this setup with an intermediate washer between are they the better ones to use if the thrust face on the case is not so good?
Not sure I've seen the type you have pictured?

Those look the same as my 52 truck 3-sp uses, Van Pelt sells them. Mine spun, scored the case surface. I put some Loctite product on the case surface before assembly, with new washers, looked fine 8k miles later when I disassembled for something else.

Well I didn,t trust the thin spacer not turning ,so I made up a little tool and put a 3/8 dimple in it to locate in the groove that lets oil done to the rear cluster bearing, that stopped it turning.

Lawrie, I had the same problem with my Canadian trans. We made one out of the U.S. Washer that has the smaller round hole the size of the shaft. Thickness and finish was the same. We did a simple program on the CNC mill and it came out perfect. If you are stuck and cannot get it done in your neck of the woods, we'll let me know. I think I posted some pics back a while on this.

Lawrie, Sorry, I do not. Never seen such a critter; only the illustration of same in my Canadian Fast Moving Parts Catalogue, from which I got the part no and description as in my earlier post. I'll put through a call to Ajays tomorrow on your behalf; see if they've got one. Let you know, Brian

I've thought about doing that when I build a trans using the later type rear thrust washer. Sounds like it worked OK for you. Thanks for posting the info. Paul J.
