Default Ford reconditioned cylinder brass plate

I have removed this curved brass Ford reconditioned brass plate from a 1934 Ford V8 Engine bell housing, what I would like to know would this engine have been reconditioned at the Ford Seaview Plant New Zealand 28/5/47 sometime, and what years would have this Plant reconditioned Ford engines.
Apparently some Ford dealers in N.Z. who reconditioned engines placed their own plate on the bell housing.

It is possible that the re-builder had no connection with Ford but was a Ford authorized re-builder that was allowed to use the Ford plate.

Hi Ian.I have a 59A engine with an identical plate.Only it was re conditioned in 1955.Only 7 or 8 years old and bored to 45 thou.My take would be that only certain reconditioners would be sanctioned to use that plate.I was told that service agents carried a stock of motors and the exchange was done in one day.Geoff

That was interesting Geoff, what are service agents, is that where the Ford Dealers received their parts from, which would be Seaview Parts depot in Auckland. I wonder if any Engines were reconditioned at a Division of the Seaview Plant at Wellington.

Here in the states, all Ford Authorized Rebuilders were separate companies that used their own plates, They identified their company, but had a Ford rebuilt emblem and specs on it. They had to use all Ford parts in Ford rebuilt parts or engines. Still do to the day. I did Ford parts for over 30 years and sold a ton of rebuilt engines and parts. Very few failures as the they were of high quality.

Yes Ian.That could very well be the case that Ford reconditioned their own engines as there is nothing on the plate to indicate otherwise. The recognized service agents in Christchurch was the same company that sold all the Ford vehicles. My plate has,8RT as well as C59A stamped on it. Perhaps a truck engine ?Geoff

"Back in the Day" around 1960, I had a rebuilt engine installed in my '53 Merc by Sun Motor Exchange in Phoenix. Seemed like it was in and out in a day, and it did have a tag similar to the one above. Don't think it said "Ford" on it, but it may have. (Geesh, it's been 55 years)

Lawrie was that model 78 engine with that plate on originally an Australian engine because that plate is the same as the N.Z Reconditioners one.

This plate is from my '40 deluxe coupe, last done in 52 it would appear. Indicates being rebuilt in the factory in Winsor.
