Default Banned for How Long?

I noticed that Rodney got banned a few months ago, and many more recently.
Is there a way to know how long the ban lasts?

I'd sure like to see them return.

Ryan posted once that:

first ban is like two weeks

second ban is longer

third is forever maybe there is another longer period involved before final ban. ...

Then again the banned person has to want to come back and post.

I do not know if banned folks can surf the site but not post or maybe they just can not get into site ...period.

I know of several guys that have not posted for a year or more but they do "read the mail' regularly. These guys were not banned but got PO ed and quit posting.

It would be nice to know what folks got banned for .... so we know what to avoid ...

NOTE:

I see that reasons are spelled out in Ryan's sticky note on MANNERS at top of page

Tom, what are some of the reasons that they get banned from here?

In a word "Drama".

Yeah, but if I didn't want any drama I could read Better Homes and Gardens
or Automobile.

Me too. Some of these people are the most knowledgeable Model A people on the planet. They don't need to ask questions but have spent time teaching us a thing or two.

They may lack people skills, but are not the people we look up to and hope to learn from often ornery, and hard to get along with?

I don't have the answer and I don't envy Ryan and Cob administrating this forum.

I agree.
An occasional spirited debate is OK to weed out false information that is often posted.
BTW, rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated.

I have seen some people that I thought I was getting to know, and respect to some degree get banned - but the reasons are quite simple and when you think of it I can't blame Ryan for doing so. It comes down to a few simple causes and rules.

1. Avoid politics. This is a forum for our beloved Fords. Not a forum about who we voted for or who is wrong for the country and why anyone who supports that person is a (fill in the _____blank)

2. Treat other people with respect. Yes even those who think differently than you. Some people like hot rods and small block Chevy's, some people like stock model A's. Some people like detergent oil, and some people think non detergent is the way to go. Alternator or generator etc. Its fine to have an opinion - or even debate that and state your case but don't PERSONALLY attack someone for having a differing viewpoint and be respectful in your discussion.

3. Ryan provides a FREE service and spends his time and efforts so we can discuss and share our knowledge and love of fords on the site he has built. Sure he gets income and support through his efforts, but he has set this whole website up and does not charge us for our participation. So complaining about how he has done things, why he does things, who he bans and what rules he sets is pretty out of line. If he gets offended by our actions, or by what we think of his site or his rules it is his prerogative to give the boot to anyone he chooses. I don't fault him for that. I remember an example where I personally asked Ryan about banning a particular individual and he gave me a specific example of how and when that person had insulted him personally while at the same token had used Ryan's resources as a way to promote his business and services without compensating him a dime. Fair enough and it totally made me feel like Ryan was justified in banning him forever.

In a nutshell its pretty simple folks. Respect your fellow barner's and their opinions (even ignorant ones) and respect Ryan and you won't get banned. Also it helps to not have a thin skin but I respect and understand why some people have stopped posting and I'm turned off by some ego's on here. I miss Purdy's contributions but see he visits from time to time. I'm not mad or tired of things I've just been distracted by life, commitments, and other interests. I hope to become more involved soon and I"m still trying to finish my coupe. That's all I have to say for now. Later fellas!

Tom you should get a ghost writer to write for you if anything happens that way people will not know if rumors of your demise are true or just fake news.

I would guess as long as Ryan wants --his site, his rules...

Maybe Ryan should address the "for sale" portion too. Maybe not up to the top but every two weeks, not 3 days??
That has gotten so redundant by a very few that it is about not worth the trouble
Agreed his site, his rules but it is getting to be my login, my choice.
And I do not think anyone bothers to ever search before they just post for info. So it's Dejavu all over again!
Heck this may get me banned!!

Oldbluoval,
I might add that there is a fellow that has 180 ttt's, maybe over 180 by the time I post this response, for an overpriced dash panel on the For Sale section. Another fellow selling speedometers has 165 for sales posts. Enough is enough. Suggestion, there should be a limit one how many ttt's or updates a person can have that just clog up the For Sale section. I, like you, also hope this doesn't get me banned.

I suppose in a "Perfect World" items in The Swap Meet section that have been sold were removed. There are ads from 2010 still on there...

May I suggest, a PM to Ryan about your concerns in the swap meet site. I am sure Ryan would look into the conserns, and you would not have to worry about getting banned, well maybe not if your not polite with Ryan in a PM :-)
