Default Electric Fan distance from core

I have a 36 PU with a 16" electric fan. The fan is mounted about 3/4" from the radiator core as a puller fan (engine side)
It seems like the fan is not pulling air thru the core but from the sides. How close should the fan be to the core to pull
air thru the core?

Most electric fan setup have the fan housing mounted right to the core.. The fan is a close as possible with out contacting the core.

If moving it closer doesn't help, you'll probably need a shroud (which isn't a bad idea anyway).

With a shroud you need to have at least 1/2 inch between the core and fan, any closer and it will not pull air from outside the fan area. If you mount a fan with out a shroud, you will only pull air at the fan and the rest of the radiator has no air being pulled thru.
If you are using a electric fan use a shroud !

I also like the shroud idea, with this you can pull the fan away from the core a bit. This will then pull air through the entire core. With a real tight electric fan, the motor prevents air flow through the core directly in front of it.
Can you not fit a mechanical one?
Martin.

Here's some helpful info. about fan hub distance from radiator and blade distance inside shroud.
