Default e brake cross shaft

I had to remove the e brake cross shaft. The bearings were seized on the shaft. I finally got things loosened up and the arms off the ends. I cleaned up the shaft and arms, the bearings slide on smoothly and before I order new bearings, I decided to test mount everything. I now have about 3/4" end play in the cross shaft. I didn't notice this before because the bearings were seized to the shaft. Is this end play normal? This is a 1931 RPU.
Thank you
Warren

it is OK, when all the rods are hooked up, it will self-center.

I believe those are brass cup bushings, not bearings. Don't forget new felts. And yes, there is quite a bit of end play when everything is buttoned up.

And it is "emergency." Your first couple of adjustments will probably result in it's permanent position in service - which will be repeated henceforth.

I might examine my frame for "bowing." My current project is at this point and the frame IS straight (I can see it) - but the E-shaft/cups/felts fit "snug" between the frame rails.

Are we talking about service or emergency brakes?

Emergency brake shaft. The straight 3/4" shaft behind the cross member.
