Default temp and oil pressure gauge

I was poking around Mike's A's and saw their coolant temp and oil pressure gauges.

What engine/cooling modifications need to be made to use them?

There is a tap on the starboard side of the engine, below the distributor, that can be used to sense oil pressure. The temperature sensor must be screwed into the goose neck (coolant outlet). A goose neck with the proper tapped hole is available from the vendors, see

The drilled water outlet is out of Stock at most vendors.

I used a stock gooseneck, just drilled a hole on the back side (towards the firewall), tapped some threads for the sending unit fitting and JB welded it in. The gooseneck is a bit thin there so be careful. I have seen some sending units that are a bit long & will bottom out on the front side so check your clearance before drilling the hole. You can back the fitting a thread or two then JB it. Some fellows put it on the side but it is in the way of torqueing the head nut there.

Good Evening...Vintage Precision makes a nice neck with a good thermostat. I've been running one for a few years and really like it. Ernie in Arizona

Stewart Warner makes a vintage “Wings” gauge in black or white. I have used them in several cars. I don’t have a picture of one in my A but here is what I mounted in my 35 pickup recently.
I used a SW temp only in the A, I felt loosing oil pressure was a rare occurrence and temp monitoring had the greatest value. I was trying to avoid dash clutter so I mounted the gauge on the drivers side kick panel and it looked natural.

Because you are in the colder part of the USA the upper neck with a thermostat mentioned in post #5 may be a consideration.

That is what I use—I like the placement of the thermostat close to the head. It’s a little pricy though.

I had to take a second look at the gaudges , that looks very similar to my 36 pickup

I've got the neck with the thermostat and a vintage looking gauge. Always runs at 160.

No oil pressure gauge, but here's my Rex-a-co temp gauge. I found a nifty steel gauge cup on Amazon which fits it perfectly and used the same hose clamp holding my turn signal switch to tie it down on the steering column. I like that it sits up high where it's easy to see instead of under the dash. Neat and clean.

So glad I asked. Really helpful info all. I like that Vintage Precision piece. If it’s American made I’m ordering one!

What is the point of an oil pressure gauge on a non-pressurized oil system?

If you order the VP thermostat housing (adding a thermostat to your system will greatly improve the cooling, it took mine from a variable 140+ to a steady 165 and really helps my heater), be sure to also order the $5 adapter that stands the temperature gauge sensor off about 3/4". Otherwise your sensor may interfere with the thermostat. I didn't and had to call them back and have them send me the adapter/standoff separately (which they did very cheerfully, great folks to deal with).

1. You don't know that the OP's car, or any individual car, is non-pressurized. It may have been modified.
2. An oil pressure gauge is sort of like a check-engine light in the sense that it will show you whether the oil pump is working or not. They rarely fail, but some people want the peace of mind.
