Default Tink Tach - Update new P/N

Hi, has anyone used the Tiny Tach tachometer? If yes, did you like it? Or any problems with the unit?
Thanks.

Tiny Tach Tech Support gave me a new p/n to order for Model A's.
1CRXL.
We'll see how this works.

I've used them for years. I like them, but I use them mostly as service minders. I have them on my lawn and garden equipment. Getting kinda pricey now days. There are some less expensive Chinese subs available that seem to work well. Just search Amazon and you'll find several substitutes.

I bought a cheap digital tach a few years ago, but the poorly translated instruction didn't say how to set the dip switches to select 4 cylinder, etc. Is this addressed with other brands?

Wrap it around the plug wire a few times (three times if I recall correctly) then I use a wire tie to secure it.

Well, yes, the manuals can be hard to understand. But, you know what RPM range you're looking for so just experiment with the few possible switch configurations until you have an RPM in the range expected. It's not like it's going to be off 20% if you have the wrong switch settings, it's going to be off by 50% or 100% so it's pretty easy to settle on the correct settings.

Default Tink Tach

I use this. I got the recommendation from a Tom Endy article. It’s easy to install (just two wires to the coil), and it works well.

. I have an analog tach also. The tach I have has a 270° sweep and is easy to read. 12v only tho. I don't care much for a digital tach, especially in my Model A.

Gives you an objective rather than subjective measure of RPM.

Not to be confrontational at all but why do you need to know the RPM’s ?

Helps when you’re first learning how to shift.

Agreed. I was concerned about overreving the engine while driving, and it helps set an accurate idle speed. Also, at one point my engine was dying when coming to a stop, and a tachometer furnished a quick visual check to see if the engine was still running. (I have difficulty hearing.)

Default Tink Tach

If you are an “old hand” with Model As, a tachometer is probably not needed. This was my first Model A, and the tachometer gave me a much needed comfort level learning about the engine.

To answer no#13, I'm curious about the engine rpm while driving at various speeds, I have Volvo O/D in the car.
Thanks guys, for all the feedback. I ordered a Tiny Tach and asked for the "little EMF filter".
Post #3, gave me confidence to order one. BTW, about 2 years ago I destroyed a cheepe from Amazon in about 2 hours.
