Also had a problem with a new Cam Screw and Washer (A-12211/13). The inside diameter of my cam is .554" and the diameter of the washer was .564". I had to use a Dremel to grind it down. The lock washer is made of thick, heavy steel and takes quite a bit of torque to compress. This makes it more difficult to adjust the timing. If you remove the washer or use a thinner one, you can't use the screw because it's not threaded completely to the head like the old, original screw (see photo). Does anyone know a supplier that has completely threaded screws?

Thanks!

I think Bratton's has the screw like the original. It has a flatter head and it comes with the thin lockwasher.

I ordered a set of points from NAPA (CS30). They are made in Mexico and are the same length as Snyder's. My original (correct) points are on the left in the photo. Maybe Mexico is the single source for (incorrect) ignition points?

Don Snyder gave a talk at Gilmore Model A day a few years ago and spoke about the problems they had getting those points made. I would cut them some slack.

I removed the cam retainer screw with oil port and looked at the threads. These are threaded from the screw head to the tip with no shank.

Not to many companies making ignition parts in the US anymore. Most are farmed out to Mexico or other third world countries. Some of the stuff that is "hecho in Mexico" is good and some is not. Either they got the wrong dimensions, they couldn't interpret the dimensions they received, or they just don't give a crap. As a gringo, I don't go to Mexico anymore. They basically have a civil war going on down there but the media doesn't like to report on it. They might get shot at.

We use inches and they read metric! NASA lost a lander to Mars due to that kind of goof.

Sadly this is very true. I feel sorry for those folks

Deere outsourced a lot of ignition and wiring loom parts to Mexico around 2000. At first there were problems but they got it ironed out and we were getting some really good quality stuff from there after that.

Generally I'd go with Mexican made parts over what is coming out of the Far East if I had a choice, based on those observations....

Or USA made. I also remember THOSE
