Leaking Holley 94 carbs
Recent (4 mo's ago) rebuilt 94's on my flathead are starting to leak between the base and bowls. Started seeping fuel several weeks ago and further tightening without over tightening doesn't seem to help. Care was taken at rebuild time to not overtighten screws and crush gaskets. Kits were of good quality and advertiised to be compatible with modern fuel. However wondering if the fuel truly does have a detrimetal affect on gasket life? Is a there a superior gasket set? I really don't want a quick fix but a permanent fix. Ideas?
Thank you for the input |

Re: Leaking Holley 94 carbs
They might be flooding. Or the bases and lower part of the body faces might not be flat. I might be wrong, but there shouldn't be any fuel, as such, in that area. The power valves might be leaking.

Re: Leaking Holley 94 carbs
Power valves are new correct parts. Leaks didn't appear until recently so surfaces shouldnt be the issue.

Re: Leaking Holley 94 carbs
I have the same problem, I changed the base and used new gaskets, one thing I did was, I added a small amount of Valve lifter oil to the Gas tank to try and stop a noisy valve lifter or lifters, everything was good and the car ran very smooth , then the carb and the base started to weep a lot , so what do I have to do to stop the weeping as I don't want a fire under the hood thanks for your Info.. RS The car is a 1934 Ford with the Original V/8 Flathead and a Holly 94 Carb.

Re: Leaking Holley 94 carbs
Like Mart said, there shouldn't be any fuel in that area unless the power valve is leaking. It should be manifold vacuum in that chamber.
Are you sure your not mistaking it for fuel leaking through the throttle shaft holes when the engine is turned off ? From fuel dripping off the nozzles and laying on the throttle plates. Maybe sloppy shaft fit ? Or possibly the brass plugs on the front of the bowl seeping and running down ? Just some thoughts. Sal |

Quote:
New "correct" power valves must be modified for fit to the old 94 carbs. The seating surface on the old carbs is flat, while the new valves have a radius. Your experiencing the leak some time after installation may be due to your gasket having an extremely small surface contact due to the difference in mating surfaces. Some guys try to put two gaskets on to accommodate the difference, but the proper method is to chuck the valves in a lathe and remove that radius.

And to me Stromberg 97s are the ones that give me fits, and I even used nylon gaskets! My 94 is rock steady.

Re: Leaking Holley 94 carbs
Remove the bowl from the throttle body base. If it's wet from fuel in that pocket of the throttle body, either the power valve diaphragm is leaking, of the gasket seal on the power valve is leaking.

Re: Leaking Holley 94 carbs
charlie, I wonder... Is there enough meat on the carb body to machine it to accommodate the new version of the valve face?

Re: Leaking Holley 94 carbs
38,
I'll refer to the Daytona power valves...just recently available...no machining to the carb is required. This PV replicates within reason the original Ford/Holley...The only drawback ,and it's minor ,is the gasket face on the valve is not flat or square with the threads. This face , in my opinion, must be machined to make it right. There is enough material on the face to machine it square and flat. Charlie ny |
