I have to apologize first as I haven't kept up on a thread I started a few months ago regarding fender welt questions for my pickup. After getting some great answers and advice the parts have all come together(I think) and some driving has been done. Drove to work before my start time at 5am this morning with headlights ablaze(well maybe just a glow), no other cars around so an easy trip to put me at 96 miles since she's been back on the road. After a trip home here are some pics and some observations. First she's running great, engine temp. is very consistent at 180 degrees, good oil pressure, brakes a little soft but work ok and she's starts easily every time. Still to do: Door glass&inner panels installed, Inside door&window handles etc as well. And lots more driving! Thanks for all the help to this point, more questions will need to be answered in future I'm sure. And yes I know some finishes like paint might not be concourse correct but it's the way I wanted, not for judging but using. Hey at least there's no SBC to ruin this beauty!

And like so many others I love that pickup of yours. My thoughts about judging at car shows is, oh well, to each his own. Any old vehicle is more fun than a nissan leaf. I'm driving the heck outa mine as old man winter is just around the bend. Thanks for sharing your truck with us!

I expect that Peekup on a cover of the V8 times in the near future. That engine compartment is very tidy.

I'm a fan of the fenders black against what ever body color. I love that shot of your hood sides and the 85hp badge, should get my hood sides back from paint next week and working on that new grill and trim. Thanks for that tip.

When I was about 19, I had a friend who had a pretty nice "barrel-nose" pickup. We all kinda looked down on him because it wasn't a '40-'41. It's funny what a few years can do to improve ones taste in vehicles.

Wow, wasn't a "big" fan of the horse collar grill trucks till now!!!! It's wonderful looking and a fantastic job. The greatest thrill is getting in, hitting the starter and having it fire right up and drive it!! SO happy for you!!! I'm a convert now.

Very nice! Of course I'm partial to the '38/'39' trucks. I do think you should add addition lighting if you are going to be doing much driving. I have L and R tail/brakes lights and people were not even seeing them until I added lights higher up in the bed roll. It may not be original but it should help to keep you and your beautiful truck safe.

wonderful looking truck. mine is the same color except wrinkled anc rusty and full of chickens, trunks and lose parts and a rubber chicken.

Please excuse my ignorance on the subject, but what is that steel tube about 2" diameter with the elbow, a hot air heater off the exhaust manifold? I thought that went out with the model A.....I love those larger pics of your engine compartment.

Hot air heaters existed through 1946. That certainly is what you are seeing. The pickup Hot Air Heater parts (ducts, etc) often differ from the passenger car and are quite rare

Thanks for all the kind comments, I've been getting lots of attention on drives and at a local Cars and Coffee event. Still some things to finish up, I say to people it will never get done, always something else that needs attention. As far as the heater system, it was a challenge to find that large pipe, initially didn't even know what it looked like until a photo of one was posted on Fordbarn by a member. I got all the other parts as a package and kept a look out for that single piece. One day it was there on e-bay, just the one piece I needed. I doubt that the seller or anyone else that saw it knew what it was even used for. I placed the only bid and got it for less than $13.00, thought I would have to end up making that part it had been so long searching for it.

One other item Gary as I looked back @ those pictures and that nice tailgate/rear fender area, get a rear bumper. I bought rear brackets from Joe's antique and had a local shop cut a bumper from spring steel.

I just got front and rears on my Fordor as well, people drive way to close and usually not paying attention these days.

Thanks again for all the kind words. As far as what what I did not do:
Body and Paint work
Engine and transmission rebuild
Stainless grill trim restoration
Frame, wheels and some other parts blasted and powder coated.
Color was originally Dartmouth Green.

What I did do is lots! And open up my wallet!
The family history on my pickup goes back to the late '40s when my grandfather traded a '36 Ford sedan for it to use on the farm. I have the title from 1954 for this pickup with his name on it as well as my dad's title from 1980. Here's a shot from today suitable for Fords in the fall.

I didn't use to like any of the Ford trucks from 37 - 39. Kind of skipped over them in my mind until lately . . . kind of like the 35 Ford! Now, I kind of like these years - maybe even more than the 40 style variants.

You've done a really nice job - you should be totally proud of your truck and you'll have so much fun with it! I only wish I had it!

That's a good question I often wondered that too. We had a '37 PU, nice little truck. At a real quick glance they remind you of a '35-'36 truck.

I believe I read once that the '37 was a transition truck, getting ready for the '38 re-design so in that sense it was kinda sorta but still a '35-'36, kinda sorta.
